wealth. Even though story does not go into detail about how Gatsby’s money was made, though by reading the book we can guess it wasn't made by legal means. Gatsby's dream was doomed to fail because of his lack of morals. This tells us that there is something wrong with the “American Dream” mentality, just like the get rich quick schemes of today, Jay is trying to buy Daisy’s love, not obtain it.
