…Sinatra lavished upon its popular songs. On his death the newspapers were ready to bring up his dark side, although fortunately the music, and his gigantic contribution to it, was acknowledged. Sinatra was the greatest interpreter of the popular song the world has known. As Gore Vidal remarked in 1998, it was likely that 50% of the current population of North America was conceived while Frank Sinatra was singing in the background. He was quite possibly right.
