Although the direct result of the Dieppe Raid was tragic, and at first glance it seems as though nothing good came out of this, we find that the lessons learned on August 19, 1942 were invaluable. From the Raid on Dieppe, came improvements on technique, fire supports, and tactics which were necessary to the successful invasion of the continent two years later, on D-Day. The strategies used reduced D-Day casualties to an unexpected minimum.
