and those in Cuba. On this same day Cubans shot down an American spy plane as it
flew over Cuba. As the tension mounted again Robert Kennedy advised his brother to
reply to the first letter and ignore the second one. President Kruschev accepted these
terms and the crisis was at last over and war averted.
