In the novel Main Street by Sinclair Lewis, a small town in the United States is described concerning a segmented society. The small town was named, Gopher Prairie, in Minnesota. As ambitious and outgoing as city people had become, Gopher Prairie was not changing at all. People were flocking from all over the world to come to the big cities of America. These people desperately wanted to take place in a new, more sophisticated society. …

…Kennicott would come to town thinking they were going to make big changes. The town people, simply, would not let this happen. They looked down upon these ideas. While this goes on, the people in the cities are enjoying al the changes that are going on. They are participating in many different things that would help their society grow. People were interested in what was going on with their government, their city, and their lifes.
