These organisms not only provide protection from ultra-violet rays they also help slow down the depletion of the ozone layer by taking carbon dioxide out of the air. Last but not least, the reason why we should preserve these precious resources is because they are a living laboratory. Scientist has barely scratched the surface of the potential of these creatures.
