Roger B. Taney
Roger Taney lived from 1777-1864. He lived a great life and did many things during his lifetime. President Jackson named Taney chief justice of the Supreme Court in 1837. He served as chief justice from (1837- 1864) he remains the second longest in the courts history. Taney was not very big on slavery. He was the author of the Supreme Courts majority decision in Dred Scott v. Sanford. Taney’s decision was made clear

to support the expansion of U.S. territory. He was a leader and became sensitive to negotiating the spread of slavery into these new territories. He did not want a congressional election but a popular election to see if would be a slave or a free state.
