The poles between the two classes have diminished to a certain extent, with the working class divide less evident than it was, however, there are still the basic inequalities that were first identified by Marx. It is a fair comment then to say that the class system is still evident, alive and kicking, and thus can be applied to contemporary western societies such as Britain.
