He had no real dramatic accomplishments during his time as president. But he did lower taxes and debt in the US and kept the economy strong, growing, and stable. He demanded and got efficient and economical performance in government operations. Coolidge declined to run for reelection. He retired in 1929 to Northampton, where he occupied his time writing newspaper and magazine articles. Politics was no longer of his natire. He died on Jan. 5, 1933, of coronary thrombosis. He was buried in Plymouth Notch, in the family plot.
