Slaves endured many hardships during their capture and upon their forced move to the Americas. Virginia and South Carolina were among the many colonies that brought slaves into their culture and daily lives. However, slaves can be first traced back in the Americas to Mexico, where Africans were being imported in by the Spanish. The concept of an indentured servant is the earliest idea that ties in with slavery.

…showed last 75 words of 819 total…an American paradox. Point being the colonists may not have won the revolution had the slaves not been unwillingly brought in. In closing, “ but goods for which the United States demanded freedom were produced in very large measure by slave labor. The irony is more than semantic. American reliance on slave labor must be viewed in the context of the American struggle for a separate and equal station among the nations of the earth.” (Morgan 1975)
