Before one of the most devastating wars in the history of the U.S., the American Civil War, the country was divided in to sections: North, South, and West. With the North and South having very different sectional beliefs on issues, the West would often have to position with one or the other depending on what they believed. …wheel” between the pre-Civil War rivalry between the North and the South, the country might not be what it is today. Fortunately in the end, the two did not become independent nations. Since all sides had equal reps in the Senate, final decisions could go to either way depending on the West’s vote. Therefore it is in my opinion that the West was the true winner in all the bickering and rivalry between sections.
