Groom Lake, better known as Area 51, is only two-hour drive north from Las Vegas at the foot of Groom Mountains. The name “Area 51” supposedly came from an old map on the Nevada Test site. Lying on 144 square miles of a dried up lakebed in the Great Basin Desert, the area looks like nothing more than a conglomerate of aircraft hangers, storage facilities, and runways. If you compare the photos you can see the new buildings, and runways built in 1998 so there has to be something going on there. And second, all of the security and signs around the area telling people to keep away, and if you don’t you will be fined and prosecuted.
