Between 800 and 750 B.C. a major colonisation movement began that for 200 years carried Greek settlers to new homes along the Mediterranean and into the Black sea region. However it is clearly evident that overpopulation and land shortage were the prime causes for Greek colonisation, as the Greeks could no longer survive with the amount of land that they owned, in which they had to support the promptly growing population. It is evidentially shown that Colonisation affected the Greek society in many ways, which were both negative and positive.
