WNEW-FM is one of New York City’s oldest and most storied FM radio stations. It began its broadcast history in October 1967 as a freeform station that let the DJ’s pick their own music. It quickly became one of the most influential radio stations in the country, inspiring copycat stations in markets all across the country. …a very strong signal. It also meets the public’s necessity. A good example of this was after the September 11th attacks when the station served as an outlet for people just to vent their anger and share their emotions on an area-wide basis. Although many people may not like the content of the shows on WNEW, they do have aright to broadcast because they do so in the public’s interest, convenience, and necessity.
